Feedback Workshop on the Textile Label Regulation (TLR)

I had the opportunity to attend the final feedback workshop on the TLR last 18th October 2024.

before the European Commission begins drafting the new legislative framework for textile labels.

The revised regulation will address both physical labels and the introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to enhance transparency for consumers and professionals alike—covering key areas such as recycling processes, traceability, and more.

This revision is the result of extensive consultation, including public feedback, consumer surveys, SME panels, and input from a broad range of stakeholders: citizens, companies, NGOs, industry experts, and textile manufacturers.

The challenge?

Balancing diverse interests.
While everyone had the chance to voice their perspectives, it was clear that harmonizing these views is no small feat.
Laws must be effective, easy to apply, and foster a unified EU approach that benefits both businesses and consumers.

At Moving mood, our focus is on consumer needs.

We believe labels should be:

– Accessible and easy to understand.
– Provide key information without overwhelming the reader.

After all, we buy once, but wear 30 times.

Yet, many consumers don’t even know whether their fabrics are natural or synthetic.

Most end up cutting off labels due to their length and complexity, losing vital information for reuse or recycling.

The solution?

Simplify physical labels while allowing the DPP to serve as a source of extra, detailed information. The DPP will offer professionals critical data for recycling and traceability, while empowering consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.

After doing a policy recommendation on the accessibility of textile labelling, in collaboration with graphic designer Lisi Badia, and with the support of S4Fashion.
Our aim is to ensure labels are inclusive and understandable for everyone.

With the upcoming TLR revision, it’s time for the Commission to act and deliver a regulation that works for all, including those with disabilities, ensuring everyone can easily access and understand product labels.

I’m excited to contribute to this important review.
